Dear Scott and List:

I suspect it's a piece for retrofitting a suicide shifter front bike to a double cable set up. I visualize that the bike had cable guides for the rear derailer and used a seattube lever front derailer. Then at some point in the future, the owner wanted to convert his frame to a Campy cable operated front derailer, and voila! The market for the front derailer only cable stop/guide.

I actually had to find one of these for a Wizard I briefly owned, where the original owner wanted a 5 speed only set up. It had rear derailer cable guides, but nothing for the front. After much searching I found one of these units and shifted happily ever after, although I had to find a cable stop front deailer to get the whole thing running.

Sold that bike to Ray Hominski: Ray is this the piece on the Wizard?

I can't really imagine another legitimate purpose for it, though. It would be right as a cable-stop for an early front-only derailleur set-up, but that doesn't make much sense.

Anybody have a catalog handy that shows the thing in use? Anyone have one on a bike?

Just listed the following NOS 1950s-60s Campagnolo items on eBay that in my opinion qualify as somewhat rare (single downtube cable stop for BARCON use, single bottom bracket single cable "noodle" guide, and downtube shifter clamp wedge):

Honestly don't know how the shifter clamp wedge is used, unless intended for smaller-diameter frame tubing???
