Mark, I didn't take your question as offensive at all, nor was I offended b y it. As far as that particular ride, we left out from Glenrothes in Fife c ounty, and rode towards Gleneagles in Perthshire. Having previoulsy ridden only in SE Mich (very very flat) the hills killed me! Your Hetchins looks beautiful BTW!

Sorry, Larry, I did not mean to offend. Sounds like crackle paint commonly used for valve covers on car engines.

You’re right, the upkeep on a texturized finish would have been ridiculou s. I have a hetchins with a 2 tone blue paint job and it’s lovely..

Where in Scotland ? I’ve ridden up around Loch Katrine and Crianlargh, n orth of Glasgow in the hill country. Very pretty.

Mark, I encountered the bike on a "club ride" in Scotland in '73. I was so intriqued with it's finish that I pestered the owner w/ a ton questions abo ut. It was indeed the original finish and it was "intentional". Somehow it seemed really appropriate to see such an "eccentric" finish on a Hetchins. However your question reminds me that the upkeep on such a finish (not to m ention a re-finish) would be a real headache because it was such a visually "busy" finish. BTW, I was so out of shape on that ride what I mostly saw o f the Hetchins was its tail end especially on the harder climbs!
