Good day all,
I offer for sale a quite beautiful Dutch frame (suitable for both quill pedals and click-in pedals, hehehe), built by RIH, based in Amsterdam. A little background. RIH was founded in 1921, in the Jordaan in Amsterdam, by the Bustraan brothers. Before the war and after the war they supplied an nincreasing number of medal winning riders, with, I think, a bias to track riders. The frame itself says '57 medals' which must have been the score in 1992., but its definitely more now. Mr. Willem van der Kaay joined the irm in 1948 as an apprentice. He is now the sole owner and still builds frames, while already over 70 years of age. So this 1992 (framenumber in the lower headlug) frame truly is a 'keeper of the flame' product, mr. van der Kaay has been wielding that torch for 60 years now!
Dimensions are as follows: seattube 62 c-t, toptube 58,5 c-c, wheelbase 99,5 cm, chainstay length 408 mm, rear spacing 126 mm. English threaded bb. Included are the Campagnolo Athena (looks like C-Record doesn't it?) headset and bottom bracket, both in excellent condition. Tubing is Reynolds 531 Competition, pretty light.
Condition of the frame is very good. Paint is a much much better quality than the RIH's I have seen from the 70s (must have changed paint shop in the meantime!). There are some nice details like the 70s style metal headbadge, the pump peg on the headtube, the longpoint lugs, the pinstriping, the reinforcing tangs on the inside of fork legs, and the tiny but exquisite reinforing strut just behind the Cinelli bracket shell. I guess mr. van der Kaay has his own ideas about strength and stiffness!
Now the frame has two dents which are really a bit disappointing: one on the inside of one of the fork legs (filled in with dark blue paint) and one on top of the toptube. The last one is very difficult to photograph (its in the white painted area), I hope you can spot it in the photographs provided. Those dents are reflected in the price. I checked the frame for alignment, and everything is straight and true.
