I had this happen to me, too, and my bid would have been higher than the on e that bought it ...
Go into your eBay "My Account" and select "PayPal Account".
There is a place there where you can link a PayPal account to your ship-to address.
something like that, as I recall and, yes, their "help" was not helpful, nor was the reply from their helper when I asked a question about it.
