Out of fairness, I have to chime in that Jimmy K's post was incredibly modest in regard to what he is selling. That bike has some lug and finish work, such as pretty rare milling in the dropouts, that is indicative of a higher level of intent, like built for an important close friend, etc., and comes with a full Masi pantographed and/or milled gruppo including pump, stem, handlebars, shifters, seatpost, and chainrings with a less commonly seen pattern, IIRC. Jimmy has the original sales receipt that came with the bike. Oh, and don't forget the first generation Super Record brake levers, they are original too. In short, that is no ordinary Masi ... it's one bad mutha'!

I didn't bid on it because I think I recall seeing it for sale before this seller bought it. What the current seller described as a repaired scratch, I remember to be rather severe and odd corrosion/rust on the rear dropout as well as the bottom bracket. It looked like those areas of the frame had sat in water for an extended period of time. But then most people wouldn't have known that about this bike and it still sat unsold on eBay for several days before someone pulled the trigger at $1299.

Previous history aside, I think the price was too low for what was presented. It looks great in the pics. Nice blue paint. Quality SR parts.

So, I think it'll be a stuggle to get $4-5K for a 70's Masi in the current market. In fact, I've never seen them sell that high at all. A typical price is in the $2000-2500 range for a nice complete example. But if our CR friends do get $4-5K, more power to them. Masi's are my favorite. I own three 1974/75 Gran Criteriums, one of which I bought brand new in 1975. But unfortunately I haven't seen the prices take a jump upwards across the board recently.
