Eddy Merckx steel frames most of which are strictly KOF rather than within the CR date have a deservedly excellent reputation for their handling qualities - this week I have two both in not common colour schemes - the larger frame has a colour scheme which I suspect must be team colours of some sort has red, green, yellow and white and dates from c1986, the second much smaller frame in the Team Stuttgart colours and is unused though has been partially built up. Other interesting frames include a Carlton Continental road race frame c1948 and a Ernie Clements from from about the the same date. Ernie Clements was a contemporary of Percy Stallard in the BLRC and like Percy also had a frame building shop. Clements frames are however much less common than Stallard and the shop apparently went bust in 1954. The other frame of note this week is a NOS Claud Butler built by Holdsworth c1984 - this is a lovely and rather unusual frame built from Reynolds 531C but with rack mounts front and back and muduard clearances. Like the late Holdsworth Pro I sold a month or so ago it is one of the last frames to come from the Holdsworthy shop before it was taken over by Marlboro. The clear star amongst the parts is the Paget double handlebar bottle cage complete with the original Paget aluminium bottles in gorgeous condition. There are also a couple pairs of very nice NOS rims - 650B Super Champion model 58 and Nisi HR22 grey anodized clincher rims. And there's two good oval badged Brooks saddles, a B17 Standard and a B17N, the latter of which is really beautiful. For fans of early Shimano Dura-Ace there are a number of NOS items including black and silver small flange hubs, a gearset and a truly stunning chainset with drilled black rings. Other less common parts include Spidel Maillard 700 pedals, Campag Chorus/Victory toeclips, a Brooks leatherette saddlebag, CLB Professionel brakeset and a sweet Afa bell.
