Dear listmembers,
i thought i compile a short report on the ride, so that everyone who missed it can be envious :)

Michi had invited to Oberammergau, in that days possibly the world capital of modern, completely OT style weight weenies (starting point of the Jeantex Transalp race), to have a ride on and a chat about vintage lightweights. 17+2 riders from 4 countries and 3 cotinents followed his call, and let me tell you, it was a great event! The weather played along with ideal riding weather, and the scenery, being one of the most beautiful mountain areas on this planet, added its part. A couple of single speed riders from near-by Garmisch also joined us, many on On-Topic frames. At 10 o'clock straight the participants met and everyone had a look at the beauties the others had brought. Among the bikes we saw:
a completely 100% original stunning french bike complete with nail-defender chain under the fork crown, a even more stunning dark blue Dürkopp with Altenburger brakes and Simplex shifter, 2 Masis 1 Altinger with 1st gen C-Record 1 Merckx 1 Bianchi 1 Dancelli 1 Chesini 1 Mike Appel 1 Learco Guerra with Cambio Corsa
and several others i can't remember right now :) Also some very nice wooljerseys were on display.
The ride led 70km from Oberammergau to the "Wieskirche", a baroque church that is in the Unesco world heritage list, and back. All bikes, needless to say, mastered the route without any trouble, and the Single Speed folks turned every hill into a sprint. We had a refreshing drink and a snack in a very scenic beer garden, then went back to the starting point. There we had a cone of ice-cream in downtown Oberammergau and fulfilled our duty as Honorers of the Flame by explaining to all the carbon riders that fibres are for clothing, but real bikes (tm) come from the smelter!
Needless to say, we totally stole the attention of all the bystanders from the modern bike crowd. I lost count how often i explained to passants how a cambio corsa gear works...
then we went to the very nice hotel of Michi's parents for dinner and a little bit of shopping Michi had arranged. I managed to snap a Toshiba winter sweater and many participants stocked up on classic shoegear :)
A peek into Michaels sanctuary storeroom ended the day in style. Many sleeping beauties there...
i totally enjoyed the chats and the ride and the atmosphere. Many thanks to Michi for organizing the ride!
