how about a multi tiered classification.
Original, unmodified. i.e. Frame has not been restored, repaired, repainted, and there are no modifications to the original specifications (or the way the bike was outfitted when originally purchased and built up).
Original, modified. i.e. Frame has not been restored, repaired, repainted but components have been changed over the course of the bikes lifetime ( i.e upgraded drivetrain, wheels etc.).
Restored, unmodified. i.e. Frame has been restored, repainted etc. but maintains the original components.
Restored, modified. i.e. the frame has been restored, repainted etc. and has had the original components replaced, upgraded etc.
