I just use threaded rod, nuts and washers. You can get e.g. a 6' length of threaded rod that fits in a dropout for a couple bucks at most hardware stores, washers and nuts to fit similarly cheap. Just cut a length of rod sufficient to span the gap between dropouts, install nuts/washers inside and out and you're good to go.
