http://www.mallettservices.com/bertin2.html You'll notice that they are gone. Long long time ago back in the days of analog (pre-digital)I had a speedometer and cadence meter unit on the bike. It was 2 meters with needles just like on car speedometer. The one for the cadence use 5 small magnets mounted on the smaller of the 2 chainring to a small reed switch mounted to the frame. The speedometer magnets were mounted to the front wheel spokes. I removed the ones from the chainring just before I took the second set of photos. I wounder if they rest of that old unit is in a box some where???
