Hi Doug, That's a scary thought to think some **** might steal our beloved machines simply to 'melt them down' for scrap value. Here in Somerset I can't say I've noticed any increase in cycle thefts, from my own personal view I always got the impression that they targeted mountain bikes, but no doubt 'race bikes' disappear as well.

Wonder how many list members have suffered the loss of bikes in the past? I had two bikes stolen right at the start of my cycling life in 1968, my Woodrup track bike, complete with Gnutti chainset, Cinelli badged stem [still got that, but lost the badge!!!] and my Upperdine, which at that time was fitted with a Sturmy 3 speed, luckily I got both bikes back after about a month of searching.

Right now I keep all my bikes stored safely in a spare bedroom, only my Winter bike is in my shed, well I hope so, haven't looked for a while!
