Full agreement with Alex on this one, that bike can't be ridden without ser ious risk to both machine and rider, mainly because the wheels would fail. That type of bike deserves to retain it's original finish, repainting it wo uld be like respraying the Cistine chapel because the Michelangelo stuff is a bit dulled and may have some dents in it. There is a middle way however, at least as far as bicycles go, and it is one that I use to ride fragile o ld stuff: use a modern wheelset for the occasional airing.
