Hullo, Another trick is to use 4-rolls of bar tape. Wrap from the center of the bars to the brake levers, and wrap from the ends to the brake levers. Tuck the loose ends under the hoods. If you shellac the tape you will not have a problem with the edges fraying. This methods was done by Alex Singer Bicycles (I'm pretty sure). Note that wide bars are not an issue and how you'll avoid fashion police when it comes to finishing the ends. Cheers!
