Ladies and Gentlemen! Boys and Girls! (and this being New York City...Every thing In Between!):

The BVVW group (a tangent of Gruppo Sportivo Pergolizzi) is comprised of a rag-tag gang of hardcore certified velo-freaks, who hangout, talk bike stuff and ride together every now and again. As discussed at our last gath ering at Dave Perry's Bike Works, I have been planning some other activit ies for the group, including but not limited to rides, talks, Polish sausages, bicycle museums, match sprints, etc.

I AM PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE A VERY SPECIAL BVVW GATHERING!

WHEN:

THIS SATURDAY, JULY 26th

Meet at 2:00PM

The Club has been invited to the studio of Brooklyn artist/cyclist Taliah L empert. For those of you who are not familiar with Taliah's work, she i s the talented woman behind http://www.bicyclepaintings.com . Taliah gave a presen tation at Le Cirque a bout 3 years ago. She has made a name for herself by lovingly painting gorgeous portraits of bicycles, many off which are "on topic" vintage lightweights. Taliah paints friend's bikes, does custom c ommissions and has even had studio sittings by bikes ridden by Greg Lemond , Andy Hempsten and Connie Carpenter just to name a few. This will be a rare opportunity to glimpse into the working studio of a yo ung New York painter who contributes greatly to our community. I encourage you all to make it out! After a brief studio tour, we will take a look at paintings both complete d and in-progress and will have a chance to ask Taliah about her studio pra ctice and life as an artist in NYC. We will conclude our visit by taking a brief walk (5-10 minutes) through Wi lliamsburg, Brooklyn and heading to the Radegast Biergarten (http://www.r adegasthall.com/), where there will be enough Brats and Beer to feed our large army of bike nuts.

WHERE:

35 Broadway 3rd floor Brooklyn, New York 11211

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Brooklyn&state=NY&address=35+Broadw ay&zipcode=11211-5943&country=US&latitude=40.71068&longitude=-73.96 7444&geocode=ADDRESS

HOW:

Taliah's studio is located at the corner of Broadway and Dunham in Williams burg, Brooklyn. Just 1 block from the East River and under the shadows o f the Williamsburg Bridge.

-Option #1: Take the J-M-Z train to Marcy Avenue. Head west down Broadway (toward Manhattan, away from the elevated train lines) for 7 blocks. Dun ham is the last block before Kent Ave, which runs along the water. 35 Wil l be on your right.

-Option #2: Take the L train to Bedford Avenue and then take a scenic 15 mi nute walk South on Bedford (the main drag of young, hip Williamsburg) to Broadway. Hang a right on Broadway and proceed until Dunham Street. 35 Wil l be on your right.

-Option #3: Ride your bike! (Lock-up on Street only.)

-Option #4: Drive a car! It's very close to the BQE...don't be discouraged! (Parking should be easy down here too.)

***NOTE*** We will gather at 2:00PM downstairs at VINNY'S CAFE/DELI on the corner of Broadway and Dunham. before heading up to Taliah's studio.

We will meet for an hour or so before heading over to the Biergarten for fr osty mugs of beer and Eastern European sausages. If you can't make it to t he studio, join The Gang for food and drink!

STILL IN THE WORKS:

NEXT MEETING (August) I am planning an upcoming meeting with a presentation by a couple of member s about the history of framebuilding in NYC. I'm hoping that I can ask thos e of you with knowledge about this rich tradition to share anything you kno w about Power, Drysdale, Brennan, Corky, etc.

KISSENA VELODROME DAY!!! (September) Jamie Swan had a great idea and suggested that a BVVW gathering at the loca l track might be great opportunity for us to gather for a ride. People wit h or without track experience should feel welcome, just come prepared wit h a fixed-gear bike! We'll likely discuss the history of the Kissena Velod rome (in Flushing Meadows Park, Queens) as well as basic riding tips, t rack safety and etiquette. It's about time we let the old track iron stret ch it's legs where it really ought to! Still deciding on a date/time, as we have to contend with scheduled races and training sessions. A Saturday morning is likely. Did I mention that I will be bringing a newly acquired 1954/55 chrome Freju s track bike???

Stay tuned...Hope to see you Saturday!
