Hi Dale: Right you are-as usual. It's rumored that Mr. Granzotto (Former owner of ICS) got the technology for chroming and gilding over aluminum from a Swiss arms manufacturer. The technique has to do with the type and number of chemical "strikes" done prior to the chroming phase. The chrome, or gold, etc., must be preceded by a nickel or copper coat. There are American companies that can do this work-it's popular in custom car and motorcycle circles. However, it's very expensive. In fact, it is interesting to note (but On Topic) that even plastic can be chromed, and, also On Topic, there is another technique called "black chrome" which was done on certain high end bikes, motorcycles and cars-very pricey as well. As Dale indicates, all this is "decorative" and eschewed by many Listers, but, as all things, is admired by others (like me). Now if I could only find someone with Suntour Superbe brake nuts with those little rubber bumpers.
Regards,
George
