Dear Patrick,

Welcome to the San Diego vintage bike scene !! We have at least 10 CR list members living in San Diego. Don't miss the monthly rides, on the 3rd Sunday of almost every month, meeting at the Aerospace Museum parking lot in Balboa park at 9:30 am (ride at 10:00). Sometimes its really hot and we meet at 8:30 am, ride at 9:00 am. Often there is a triathlon or some other sporting event in which case we meet across the street at the Navy Hospital parking lot.

Having said that, I'm sorry to report that San Diego seems like sort of a wasteland for the vintage bicycle collector. There have been several list members in the past who "mined" all the vintage bikes and turned them into fixies, and flipped the drivetrains on ebay. because of this extensive "bicycle mining", I almost never see 1960's or 1970's road bikes on craigslist. It's mostly mountain bikes and kids bikes, only.

A similar guy (brooks Van Holt) is doing the same thing up in petaluma, I believe ~ vintage bike mining...

Some of the shops where you CAN find a vintage bike are : pedal pushing bike shop, ye olde bicycle shop and cafe, adams avenue bike shop, and veloculture. best wishes and welcome !!

There's also ebay and http://www.crazedlist.org.
