This bike was built by Cinelli for Centurion in the early eighties. From what I've heard, it was their top of the line bike in those years. Many of the original parts were Ofmega. Larry Black even has a few still in the box, if you can find his bike collection online. In the archive's I think Larry even offered a new one to the list for $700 or so at the time. I've got one of the frames myself, purchased from Sterling Peters years ago and called a Cinelli Centurion when I bought it. It's now built up w/ 9 speed ergo, but originally (for me) a Mavic groupo with the starfish crank. Mine looks like it was owned by a messenger having all the decals badly scraped off except for the one's marked 'Cinelli' and 'Made in Italy'. It's my beater/rain bike and a real hoot to ride!

The bike rides quite nicely, a bit more nervous than a seventies bike, and not as solid feeling as the old SC's, and tighter geometry. Really a fun bike. It did make me somewhat nervous a couple years when I accidently got it up to 58 mph on Bike Virginia. I had to try it out that year on after building it up w/ the low geared triple ergo.

The e-bay auction would not be how I'd dress up a bike, but I don't think the buyer got a bad deal. If I had a choice, I'd rather have the real Cinelli.

Happy trails,

Dan Artley

Did someone get an awesome deal on this on-topic bike ??

http://ebay.com/<blah>

(for posterity's sake, it's a 23" cinelli that's been repainted all black, with the phrase "CINELLI" on the top tube and "CENTURION" on the downtube. It has a shimano 105 drivetrain , and all of the componentry has been anodized either red, or black. No seat or pedals. The spokes are red. This guy really loves red and black !!

I am still kinda wondering if its a true cinelli, or a centurion cinelli, since it has the pointed seat stay caps you'd see on a centurion. Nevertheless, the seatstay caps, rear brake bridge, and bottom bracket are all (C) logo'd (fork is carbon), and the lugs look like cinelli (but their pictures are blurry.)
