Nick,
Relax. At least the bike has a French made JPR seat post; and wasn't someone asking about those the other day? As for those Sheffield pedals, my 1969 Atala came with an identical set. That bike was built in January '69 (and purchased not long afterwards) so I imagine this style of Sheffield pedal was available as early as 1968. In any event, I still have those pedals, but now they're beaten to death and mounted on a Rudge Whitworth 3 speed. To be honest, too, I feel those pedals are better than the comparable Lyotard pieces. (Gasp!)
As for Italian pedals using an English name, I think the Italians once considered English to be stylish, if you can believe it. For example, years ago when I visited Italy, I went on a "raduno" ride with the Touring Club Italiano. This was also during the same time of year as the Giro, and the phrase "Win Sarroni" was painted all over the roads.
     Ciao,
