... speaking deep from within the land of Duh !, i forgot to mention why these Dunlop rubber brake cable guides were such a crucial part of this Bate's next life, eg restoration ... it's the top tube with the reverse butt. a standard metal clip won't fit around the centered oversize top tube diameter. thank you Dunlop !

... speaking of these Bates, i took the one we got from the Chris Beyer estate into the local bicycle shop several years ago. an older gentleman with a serious raleigh rider next to the shop stand, said something to the effect, that "that bicycle must have been in one heck of a front end collision". i think i said something to the effect (with a smile) "you should have seen the kids we ran over".

... opps, probably not our best attempt at dark humour. but the kids in the shop got it, since they had seen another Bates we had brought in earlier ... oh well :)
