Well, I would have thought people who ride trikes do it because of some disability, such as balance problems, although some may do it just to be "different". It would have also been a good area for setting records due to less competition. There are a lot of trike motorcycles (as opposed to sidecar outfits) but I expect that's because some of those custom models would need a crane to get them upright if they ever tipped over.

As for the drive, I'm surprised that nobody came up with a limited slip diff as found in better cars.
