Subject: [CR]Steel frame top tube cracks.......

Dear LIsts:

I recently acquired a 1988 Team Miyata lugged steel frame. The frame has internal cable routing complete with rubber/nylon cable housing boots. Problem is: there are small cracks in the TT where the cable openings are located. I am told that the previosu owner rode the bike for years and never saw the cracks grow. They appear to be hairline and I can not determine if the cracks are crinkles in the paint evidencing some stress of if they are though...(I am reasonably confident that they are not through the tube). I have posted pics at:

Any clues....suggestions would be appreciated.
