After 1973, Peugeot had abandoned use of cantilever brakes on some models. The simple alternative was to fit the rear bridge with a hanger similar to the Weinmann. The vertical drilled bridge still supported the stainless steel mudguard, but a shorter brake bolt than usual screwed into the threaded alloy of this hanger to attach the center-pull brake caliper. These were very simple, clever and effective.
Here is one on my 1975 PX-50 (a 650b bike)... in this case, made for a Mafac caliper.

The other major French brake company, CLB, had already been producing MANY different similar fittings made for various mounting applications. I believe both the Mafac and Weinmann versions had been introduced a bit later.
