[CR]Modolo brakes - hard to replace rubber shoes in holders?

I have well worn Modolo brake shoes (and NO wear to the Mavic MA-2 rims). They are also now squealing a lot. I want to replace the shoes.

I have replacement Modolo inserts, but have never tried pulling out old shoes to insert new ones in the metal holders. Any tips? Any warnings? Anyone do this? Is it hard? These are Modolo Speedy's if it makes a difference.
