Subject: [CR]Home made drop out alignment tool

Of all the home made - Gerry rigged tools I've made ... the drop out tool was the easiest. I still have an ebay leverage bender tool that I use for major bending the drop out hanger (It was $10 if I remember -- a long bar with a t-handle). The actual dropout alignment tool I made is just two threaded bolts with a few nuts in the middle of each to lock the tool to the dropout. I then futz with the nuts so that the tips of the threaded bolts are almost touching. By the offset of the tips I can tell which drop out needs to be bent. I then yank away at the long bolts until the tips meet. Then I use a string around the head tube back to each drop out to tell me if the drop outs need to go left or right. - More yanking- more string - more bolts and then I finish with bending the hanger. Bolts, string and a $10 tool to bend the hanger. Good alignment is practically free. Now fork alignment is a different thing altogether. I don't go there without professional help.
