The person who sold it to you was correct - The Dancing Chain has mistakes, a huge number in the 1st edition and still some in the 2nd edition. Your derailleur is a Tour de France twin cable - these were sold for a short time in the early 50s though they do not feature in any Simplex catalogue I have seen though are on a Fonteyn list. There will be a history of Simplex push-rod derailleurs in a future Boneshaker, Gordon Selby wrote an article a while back which he is now finishing off and revising in the light of more recent knowledge. The arm is common to the standard Tour de France.
