Kevin asked about his newly acquired Galmozzi:

I don't know if the lugwork or decals will tell someone when it was made, but does 1973 seem a reasonable date of manufacture? Are there any date-coded parts I should check? (not that many original ones remain) Also, it has Dura Ace bar-end shifters. Would the original also have had bar-end shifters (Campy) or downtube shifters?

The bike certainly does resemble a 70's Galmozzi. You can compare it to one of the Galmozzi bikes that I have, as seen here: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/maasland/1975-Galmozzi/ The older Galmozzi bikes from the 50's and 60's used different lugs, which are quite readily recognizable. You may want to check to see if the headtube is marked Galmozzi Super as seen in this photo: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/maasland/1975-Galmozzi/Galmozzi_head_tube_marking.jpg.html

As for original equipment, had you gone into Galmozzi's shop, back in the day, he would likely have been more than happy to build it up however you wanted. This could have meant any combination of components that you might have desired. If the bike was however originally sold here in the USA, it is more than likely that the bike would have exported fully built up, which would likely have meant full Campagnolo.

As chance would have it, I received another box of items that I picked up from Cinelli today and among the different items, I also found a fork crown that says Galmozzi on it. It is however a different design that the one used on both your and my bike.
