The 1979 models were supposed to be painted like this :

However, I think that what you actually have is a "Raleigh Professional" made-for-the-UK frameset. It's built in the same Carlton shop (Worksop, England) on the same jigs as the USA models, it just has different paint and decals.

Here is the badging for a very similar 1977 Carlton Professional bike. I sourced this bike from the U.K. in the summer of 2006. Again, it's the same frameset, built in the same place. You can probably notice how close the badging of the Carlton Pro is to your Raleigh Pro model:

My suspicion is that perhaps Carlton had some extra framesets left over in the U.K. that weren't sold, so they exported 50 of them to the USA and sold them here.
