The NOS part likely also has grease which has dried over the years and beco me gummy. Which is the cause, I think, for the high amount of friction in a 7sp Sachs freewheel I have on my Gazelle Champion right now. It is enoug h that the chain goes slack for a moment when I stop pedaling. I've attemp ted to soak in some fresh oil to liven up the grease, and hoped that it wou ld loosen with use, but to little effect thus far.
