Unfortunately the scourge of the bike trade recently has been "volumetric weight" - and I am afraid that some of us get dinged by it. It recently cost me 141GBP to have the Carpenter frameset - along with mudguards and a few other bits and pieces shipped from London. The box full only weighed in at 7kg, but with the measurements (Height X Width X Depth) amounted to about 23kg volumetric weight - over one of the threshold marks. That was for a 21" frameset. Now I did opt for an extra 10 quid of insurance to up the insured value to what the frame was worth. The shipping cost me more than the frame and certainly more than the respray - it will be a while before I buy another frame from abroad (or so I say ....).
