Cuevas worked, as Lou says, for Mike Fraysee up until the early 80's then opened up his own frame shop in Queens, NY, just under the 59th St. Bridge. Not to try and tarnish a CR icon but Cuevas did not use a jig in his frame building and cold set his frames after they were done. If they needed it. Team Brooklyn rode Cuavas frames. Team Brooklyn had riders like Tom Donahue, Alarec (SP?)Gayfer( who became director of the Leheigh County Velodrome - T Town and died recently of cancer), and Norberto Caseras (who won a mountain stage in the Coors Classic and was an National hero in his home country of Columbia). Curevas' frames had a bad habit and reputation of breaking. Donahue, a powerful rider, used to pull out the bottom bracket and need a replacement every year. Sorry to burst any bubbles. This 73 Cuevas is being sold by Mike Fraysee, so I suspect he would know
about the history. I've never seen a Cuevas with Cuevas decals this early, despite Francisco starting to build in the 1920s in Spain. My understanding was that most of his frames that he made in the U.S. after he moved back to the U.S. were Paris Sport decaled until about 1982. I'll look closer at my notes from his Grandson tomorrow. I wish this were 55cm instead of 61. Pics aren't great, but it is no doubt a Cuevas. Lou Deeter, Orlando FL
