I have two stayer (pace-follower) bikes in my collection a Bastide from c1913 which belonged to Leon Meredith and a Carlton from the early 70s both with 24in front wheels. The Bastide rides exceptionally nicely and I have ridden both on the track at Herne Hill and on the road on the Benson Veteran Cycle Club run. The only thing you have to be aware of is the toeclip overlap - otherwise it steers just beautifully and is very stable not what it looks like at all.

I'm sure we have all seen pictures of them with their smaller front wheels, reversed front fork and huge chainrings, but probably there is only a couple of CR members who have actually ridden one. Certainly I haven't, nor have I ever been asked to build one.
