As Peter explained in his contri, Motoconfort was a sub-brand of Motobecane in the days when the factory was situated at Pantin in the northern suburbs of Paris The brand is looked down upon slightly, but some of the machines looked quite elegant, and I suspect that the two brands might have had something to do with marketing ie Motoconfort for the larger outlets and Motobecane for the more specialist shops.

The one for sale on French Ebay is in very good nick but appears to have lost its down tube decal which would have been one of those aluminium foil type panels..like the one on the seat tube. Normally the headbadge on these bikes is a very attractive art-deco type one.

I think Peter must have been reading my emails because I have already written to the seller...this is the second-time around for this bike..didn't get a bid first time..to ask if he would save it for me, should I win the auction. I will be near to Aubenas in April, if nor earlier as I hope to follow the Paris-Nice again this year in March. Aubenas, the town where the bike is to be found is situated on the eastern flank of the Ardeche massif, the Ardeche being a wonderfully wild and rugged area in lower France, renowned mainly for its white-water rafting facilities and its proximity to the Roman adequeduct the Pont du Gard. As luck would have it I have a large static caravan on a camping site on the eastern side of the River Rhone..about 45 minutes beautiful drive from Aubenas...or about three hours of incredibly hard cycling..what a ride that is...so I am interested in buying this machine. If anyone on the List is coming over to France this year to watch the Tour de France and just happen to be down in the Alps or Massif Central..the Gorges de l'Ardeche are well worth a visit..and are not very far, perhaps just over one and a half hours of beautiful scenery from Mont Ventoux, Chateauneuf-du-Pape etc The second weekend of june the Ardeche is invaded by upwards of 12000 cyclo-sportfs - the record was 17000 about three years ago - who ride the L'Ardechois..France's most popular but very demanding audax ride. In the astart town of Tournon there are several really class bike shops to while away the time in.
