There were at least 2 versions with the raised lip, 1st version had the cap on the rear/backside of the pedal hole, 2nd version did not. The second version has a ramped lip leading to the pedal hole, I believe that the first version is not ramped, the raised portion is well defined, like a thick washer The caps on the 1st versions were often popped out when pedals with longer threaded portions were installed on the crank so you could still have a 1st version crank set. This is a great site for campy info, it is in Japanese but you can still figure things out via the photos:
