Dear CR Listees, Dan Artley has done it again! This was truly a "RENDEZVOUS EVENT". The "B" team of "Artley & Raley" headed south from "Baltimore" while the "A" team of "Roberson & Walsh" headed north from "Annapolis" on the converted rails to trails pathway, called the Baltimore and Annapolis(B & A) Trail. The weather was a bit cooler than expected, but luckily we had some clothes to layer up with.Once the two teams of riders converged it was fun being able to "ride swap" a couple of truly, vintage Jack Taylor bicycles and Tom Roberson's "city bicycle" from "Velo Orange". Fortunately we were all riding quill pedals with clips and straps. Also all four of the bicycles were all very close in size to the respective sizes we all normally ride. Each bicycle had a very different feel and took some time getting used to riding. We made it over the draw bridge into Annapolis without incident! We got to see the steel, drawbridge rise while we had lunch at a local eatery called "Carroll Creek" in the Eastport neighborhood of Annapolis. The city of Annapolis is the capital of the "Free State", of Maryland. It's one of the older cities on the east coast and the annual boat show had people being ferried into town on buses. The older, historic part of Annapolis is often clogged with traffic and today when we rolled into town at 11:30 a.m. even more so. We managed to stay together as a fairly small group of four cyclists, and it helped in the traffic to be riding in a small group in my opinion. The beer was cold, the coffee was hot and the food was great at the Carroll Creek restaurant. We were fueled and ready to find the Velo-Orange shop, which has been at it's new location since August. The folks at Velo Orange were very receptive to our small group.Dan Artley had called earlier in the week and told them to expect us. I think we all left with, a little something or other from Chris's growing inventory of items being added to the retail store of "Velo-Orange". We also got to meet Tom Martin a CR list member who is now working at Velo-Orange. We also met Chris's wife and his son! I ended up buying a small brass bicycle bell for the return ride home on the "B & A Trial".The day had flown away when I realized it was already 3 p.m. and we still had to pedal back to our respective vehicles and then drive back home. Dan had a great idea of taking a day off like "Ferris Bueller" and luckily some of us got to join him in the adventure,of riding vintage bicycles.Fall was in the air when we hit the trail on Friday morning.Thank goodness for four the seasons and thank goodness for friends to share the joy of riding with on the trails, roads and "city streets". Bicycling by the U.S. Naval Academy and the city of Annapolis is a fun outing if you have a chance to take a day off. Thanks for inviting us Dan! P.S. Tom, Thanks for driving to the ride start! Yours truly, Marty Walsh in Vienna,Virginia, in the U.S.A.
