Hi Marcus. In this case, a manufacturer would be brazing one item under the BB, as opposed to two on top. In my experience most bike makers don' t even do this, but instead drill and tread a small hole for a plastic gu ide to be screwed in.

The underside cable guide will also be easier and faster to paint the bike. This may seem trivial to us on the list who only paint one frame at a tim e, but for companies that produce bike frames by the tens of thousands, it really adds up.

(I know, off topic, but still of interest) Perhaps animated manufacturi ng plays a roll in this as well, since a modern bicycle designer now must consider the strengths and limitations of what robot bike builders can and can't do. I don't know much about this, so perhaps this should be left for another discussion.

Whichever way your cables are guided, we should all enjoy the ride.

Tom,

Thanks for the note. I'm not I get it, though. Lots of bikes have under BB guides brazed on, so I'm not sure how it saves any work

Best regards,

Marcus

Hi Marcus. My guess would be the efficiency mass production. By running the cables under the BB, it's two less things that have to be brazed on to the frame, and it's going to be easie r and faster to paint that part of the bike. The bicycle industry is like all other businesses, it's always going to be looking for ways to cut cost and stay profitable.
