Well List,

I think this is o.k. to sell here cause she’s a keeper of the flame frame even though she is equipped “modern”. Greenspan might call it a “conundrum”. I hope that she elicits some “irrational exuberance”!

For Sale:

A bit incomplete Mondonico Bicycle

Particulars are as follows:

Frame: Mondonico “EL OS Monostay” model built about 2000-2004 with Columbus oversize “Extra EL Leggeri” Nivacrom steel tubing. Fully lugged with a full complement of braze-ons. 21 inch seat tube ctr. to ctr. with a 21 ½ inch top tube ctr. to ctr. Original Columbus steel threaded chrome fork with engraved “AM” crown. Original 135mm width rear spacing. Chrome right chain stay. Campagnolo 1010 short chromed dropouts with adjusters.

This is A hand-built classic-looking modern 10 speed bicycle from the old country built by a genuine italian master. She is just a classic lugged italian road bike with modern equipment!

A little history: Before Colnago, before DeRosa, there was Cicli Mondonico, an artisan bicycle frame shop in Milan, Italy. Originally founded by Giuseppe Mondonico and his brother Angelo in 1929, later the torch was carried by Giuseppe's more famous son Antonio. Antonio, before his retirement, was fond of saying that he grew up with “steel filings underneath his fingernails”. Today, Antonio's son and third generation builder Mauro Mondonico oversees the building by hand of a few hundred Mondonico bicycle frames in their backyard shop outside of Milan, Italy.

for a GREAT photo of the old shop and some FANTASTIC copy!

Antonio Mondonico and his son Mauro visited shops in The United States in those years and measured clients for custom-built frames. Although she is an off-the-shelf measurement frame, the attention to detail and high quality of this frame is obvious; just examine the beautiful lug-work!

This bike rides FANTASTICLY; she handles like a dream, she is stiff and steers as if by thought, climbs well, and is solid and nimble when I’d bomb down Prospect Park hill! An absolute joy to ride! I rode her about 3000 miles in total, mostly in Prospect park, Brooklyn. I purchased her as a frame from the original owner about two and a half years ago in Queens, New York. Her gruppo came off of my Calfee when she broke her head tube. The frame has no dents and no dings. Paint is in excellent condition over all except in two places; in the middle of the top tube ( about three inches wide all around ) there are spider cracks and an area on the bottom has been touched up. Same thing on an area on the lower side of the down tube about two inches long. As the pictures show; hey, I sweat alien acid! Chrome is in good to fair condition; minor pitting on the fork and right chain stay. Drop out faces are chrome and very nice.
