Dear listers,

Anyone out there interested in a 1969 Sturmey-Archer S5 5-speed rear hub with 28 holes?

ebay #120316815283

I took another look at my LBS' brake shoe stock yesterday. THe Eagle 2 shoes with non-threaded ("cantilever") studs look like a good bet, as do the blue Ritchey ones I saw there. Then there are the Velo Orange house-brand ones I saw on-line. (I've been using the Eagle 2 adjustable-fit pads with F and R Weinmann 999 CP brakes on both Peugeot UO-18 mixtes with great success.)

It looks like the demise of the older Matthauser finned pads was not the end of the world for Mafac brake fans. Now, if I could only figure out how to get a nice full-wrap gum rubber hood to fit on the old half-pad Mafac levers, I'd be set.....

In other news, we have cancelled our plans to relocate permanently to LA, and will be staying in the Bay Area, work availability and finances permitting, since i do not have lots of Raleigh pro Mark IVs or Herse crank sets to sell on ebay for astronomical sums...Are there any local (N CA) vintage swaps after Biketoberfest in Fairfax?

Thanks,

Jon Spangler who is happy to be struggling to stay in Alameda, CA USA, instead of moving to LALA-land...
