I think what people using thread locking compounds often miss is the
fact that the larger the threaded area the stronger the bond.
So a compound that may work well for fairly easy removal with the
relatively small crank bolt is overkill for something as large as a BB
shell.
IMO red Loctite should be avoided in bicycle use unless it is a desperate measure to rescue ill fitting or badly worn parts.
