I cant say there would be any purpose of honing the INSIDE of a seatpost, u nless you believe you will save weight.  However there is a purpose of ho ning the inside of the SEAT TUBE. This process will help give a good solid bit to the seatpost and help to eliminate those terrible zig-zag pattern sc ars that ruin most seat posts.  I also use a round file to clean up the e xpansion slot and do a bit of bevel to the entry point of the seat lug.  Grease em up and there is little to worry about in the scaring end.      BT

The owner of my LBS showed me a trick today that he uses on all his older Campy seatposts. He uses a brake hone with and extension. This is a three padded device that slowly removes excess metal. He said that he uses the drill and goes slowly over a few minutes to get the wall thickness down to a predetermined level from top to bottom.
