Brian,

I believe that the term 'opportunist' was employed to describe the tone of Mr. Kone's post. It's in keeping with your position that the possible sale of privately held vintage components isn't dependent on firesale need. That would, of course, be predatory; hence the discussion. There is I'm sure, a contingent of people that when shopping for a custom frame, could also pose the question: 'Times are tough Brian. I expect that you'll make me a heavily discounted deal on a new order?'. In which case, one of you ends up looking the cheapskate. I suppose the interesting answer is which of two?

That would probably start a whole 'nother discussion<s>.

BTW: Don't pick on Huffy's! Got to start somewhere.....

Jerry,

Thanks for the logical and obvious practical perspective on this subject . Mike Kone is most certainly one of the most valuable, straight up, hon est and ethical persons I've ever met in my life.

I find it hard to believe that there are cheapskates in a hobby as inexp ensive as collecting bikes; and yet they exist. The same cheapskate woul d pitch a fit if the shoe was on the other foot and someone was telling them that they make too much money at their job and they shouldn't make a profit at it. Get real or go away. Mike and his kind are doing a lot o f us a huge favor by providing what they do.

If you want cheapness, collect Huffys.
