For a double to triple conversion, looking? for front and rear to handle 50/38/28 front, 14-28 rear; Campy preferred but I'm looking for solutions. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ A few observations may be of use. All reflect my prejudices, of course: 1) The only suitable classic-era Campy rear derailleur for this application were the Rally units. If someone pays you to take his "Gran Turismo," which has enough range, that's fine. It is a lovely conversation-starter if hung in the kitchen (explain it as a pizza-slicer with spring-loading to keep constant tension), but not suitable for use on bicycles. 2) If you broaden the search, there's lots of nice stuff, in varying price ranges, that will do an excellent job of wrapping enough chain and moving it smartly. Huret Duopar, the metal Simplexes with long cages, and the wonderful Shimano and Suntour units. From Shimano, I like the Crane, and from Suntour anything from a GT to a long-arm Cyclone. 3) I'm successfully using a common Campy Record front with this kind of chainring range. But, I liked the old Shimano Titlist even better.

And, you can't do a lot better than the (late series) Suntour ratcheted shifters, which came in down-tube, bar-con, and other varieties. Available new as Rivendell "Silver". Although I do like the counter-sprung Shimano barcons, too.
