Matthew, in case you didn't see it I'll post this again:
>From Sergio Meda's COLNAGO of` 1986, "On the other hand counterfeit bikes are not a rare occurrence....a number of Colnago fakes were traced to Belgium recently and one of those actually ended up in a large store in Los Angeles where Colnago himself spotted it..."

In the same paragraph, which I didn't quote, he (Colnago) laments not having total conrol of the decals.

I posted earlier in the week hoping to get confirmation of my suspicion tha t the frame linked below is not a Colnago. Members of The List agreed unan imously: "Aint nothin' like the real thing, baby". Even a former owner o f this frame (who contacted me from London) agreed that it was "strange". I saw this frame in person here in Brooklyn, where it spent a few weeks fo r sale in a local shop before heading to New Jersey, where it's latest ow ner has listed it on eBay: http://ebay.com/<blah> 68355QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250318368355&_trkparms=72%3A1418%7C39%3A1% 7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

It generated a bit of discussion on another local cycling forum when I sugg ested that it is not an actual Colnago, as listed. The fellow in Brookly n who brought it to The States from London claimed it to be a "Belgian-made " Colnago...made when the UCI would only allow Colnago to sponsor one profe ssional team. He also cited that the "serial number checks out as register ed to Colnago's 1980's Belgian builder." Wait a minute. Hold the phone. Sounds to me like he might be confusing the Colner story (among others). So now there seems to be even more gray area.. .Leading me to the following questions. - A Belgian Colnago builder??? Wha?- Where were Colners made?- Did Colnago ever sub-contract any frame production outside of Italy?- Does that clover/ club logo on the fork crown offer any insight into who might have manufactu red the frame? Or could this be a mis-matched frame/fork?- Any guesses as to what this thing might actually be? Matthew BowneSooo curious...And don't wanna put my foot in my mouth inBrook lyn, New York
