Greetings, all. Just to clarify. I don't believe that clinchers are faster
than tubulars, that just seems to be the prevailing mythology. My guru in a
ll things technical, Jan Heine, makes good arguments for sewups being faste
r in BQ and i buy them. My point is that despite all the hype and measureme
nts purporting to show clinchers being faster, racers "vote w/ their feet"
by choosing tubulars. {I acknowledge Fred's point about tubulars not coming
off the rim, of course.} Cycling like everything in the real world is a co
mplex activity and it is hard to reduce to a single factor be it rolling re
sistance, Q, aerodynamic drag or whatever. Don't get me wrong i think it is
important to try to quantify these things. It's just that they don't alway
s add up in asimple linear way. What i like best about BQ is Jan's attempt
to bring real world experience, "feel" if you will, into the argument. Bill
