I have a early Super Course that is as far as I know 1968,  The serial nu mber is 180885 . This number is clearly stamped on the Lh. rear dropout, it has no letter just the numbers. It doesn't seem to jive with most Raleigh lists I have seen  but is totally original and unaltered. The head badge i s the oval or shield type  rather than the Heron head by itself. I have b een told that these were used one year only for some sort of anniversary ed ition. Can anyone provide further details?  It is marked with the flowing script Super Course and Raleigh that is typical of the late 60's early 70' s era. Both the headset and B.B, threads are Raleigh {26 Tpi.}.  The qual ity of the chrome is superb, unfortunately the overall quality of the frame construction is so so at best. I am sure that the Nervex pro lugs contri bute much to the problem. It has been mentioned by several listmenbers that they were poorly finished in the "out of the Box" condition  and I am sure the frame builders on a lower end model such as the Super Course  did little other than stick the tubes into them and braze them up. I have a feeling these early bikes were probably made by Raleigh themselves rather than Carlton; In fact the head badge says Nottingham, although I don't know if the later ones were marked Worksop. Does anyone know when the Super Cou rse was introduced ?  And finally was it an export model only ? I know th e model line up varied substantially between home and export with Raleigh.
