This is a good source of that ultra-low melting point metal in North America, and has a nice summary of material properties.

You can also get the stuff from Small Parts and/or McMaster-Carr, once you know what you want. There are probably cheaper sources out there....these places sometimes have healthy mark-ups from "should cost" prices.

I wholeheartedly agree and think that the 'Headbadge' email chain is a clas sic example of the list working at its best. Could I just add that I found a link for the 'model metal' I was talking about earlier. The 5 star stuff looks as though it could be ideal for reproducing a badge where a natural b ronze/brass finish isn't essential, i.e. if the badge once cast is to be painted with enamels for example:
