Subject: [CR]Jim Redcay or Redkay?

A few weeks ago some friends of mine who own a used bicycle shop came upon a Jim Redcay touring frame at the old timey swap in t-town. The bike sports "Jim Redkay" decals with a K rather then a C. There are is also a decal on the chainstay indicating it was repainted by Cuevas (not sure which one). The font used seems to be the same as the others that I have been able to find on the internet, but the name is spelled differently.

Anyone have any idea what the deal with this might be? Maybe some home made decals hastily done and misspelled? Is it even really a Redcay? From what I have read, most of his frames are fairly clean, with little distinguishing markings.

Which brings me to my next question, how many times can you repaint a bike? If this bike has already been repainted, and the future owner (possibly me) wanted to repaint it with a different color and correct decals, would that be damaging to the steel? Did anyone on this list ever own this bike?

All comments are always appreciated.
