Interestingly, I have had better luck getting loose balls at one of the older fashioned type of bike shops here in town which sells and maintains a variety of bikes, but caters especially to the three-speed, single-speed (coaster) and children's bike crowd. They also stock 1/8" chains and 26 X 1 1/4" tyres. And the cost of the loose bearings - 10 cents a piece!! A real "family-friendly" - neighbourhood corner bike store!
