"Looking at the 1969 Super, brings a question to mind that I keep meaning to? ask the list.? This '69 top tier Italian road bike still uses a clipped-on? set of "b.b." cable guides.? Was there a year that most of these big guys? went to brazed-on top of b.b. guides, or did the change trickle in??? Thanks...

Mark,

I can't speak to Italian bikes in general, but with Colnago Supers, my observation is that the change was initiated in 1972. "Playing Card" Supers I've seen (including mine) all have the clip-on Campagnolo guides; post-Playing Card Supers from 1972 onward have braze-on guides. I would bet there are exceptions, since this is Colnago we're talking about, but I believe that they merely prove the rule. The braze-on guides were, of course, available to builders for years prior to their widespread adoption in Italy and the pro peloton generally.
