What I like of the bike in the photo is the complete lack of overlap/crossover, strictly 1-5 & 6-10 (1-4 & 5-8?)

Great 1947 photo of Alex Singer - builder & bike - from the website which Dirk referenced earlier:

A question: Does anyone recognize or understand the "shorts" (?) which he is wearing? They appear to have leg or knee guards attached by buttons or snaps. I've never seen this before.

... Oh, and I love the little man standing facing the wall in the background - seen just above the handlebar on the bike... and in front of the [ahem] darkened stain on the wall.
