I had to pull this back to on topic, as the original John P's post was
yesterday, and today is 12_28 and I was 20k feet in the air heading up
the east coast back home today.
Yesterday, Rita and I had the pleasure of being hosted by our own Garth
L. at a velodrome north of Miami for our first time (though I had a
multispeed couple of lap encounter with Trexlertown a couple years ago).
My own riding experience was tempered with a far too small off topic
bike (58cm) with not quite enough seatpost to suit and inadequate shoes
for the pedals, but Rita had a blast on an other off topic bike
accompanying Garth around the track, he on the fine Mexican track bike
he touted on the list a couple months ago built in the Windsor factory.
Ironic that Rita tried her first fixed ride in the beginning of the
summer on a Windsor road conversion that Joel from Via Cycle had kindly
provided. It looks as Rita has found another opportunity for diversion
on this track when she visits family in South Florida.
Earlier that day, we made a visit with occaissional poster John from
Business Cycle in Miami, a shop catering to the pro market (it was
obvious). We were treated to narratives of riding in central park in
the 70's to technical banter spanning from our on topic period bikes to
contemporary approaches in bike design that was both enjoyable and
informative. Ended up with a set of DuraAce track hubs that will
eventually end up on my very on topic KOF Nagasawa Keiren frame that I
received on on December 23- but that is even more off topic than
December 28...
